Below is a listing of our commonly accepted programs as well as tips for saving your file properly for press. If you are working in another program, please feel free to contact our art department at 218.326.3466 or email art@treasurebayprinting.com, we would be happy to help! Quark Xpress (6.0) - Place all images, elements and colors as CMYK (NOT RGB!) or PMS colors for 2 color jobs. Include all images and fonts used by using the "Collect for Output" option under FILE menu. Save as a .qxd file. Illustrator (CS) - Place all images, elements and colors as CMYK (NOT RGB!) or PMS colors for 2 color jobs. Embed all placed images by using the Links Manager under WINDOW menu. Convert all text to outlines. Save as a .eps or .ai file. Pagemaker (6.5) - Place all images, elements and colors as CMYK (NOT RGB!) or PMS colors for 2 color jobs. Include all images and fonts used by using the "Collect for Output" option. Save as a .p65 file. Adobe Acrobat (CS) - Full Color - It is important that all images and colors used within the document are placed as CMYK. If they are saved as RGB, it is not editable once saved and will print as black and white. For black and white - place images as grayscale to lower the size of the file. A job that needs to be color separated for press CANNOT be saved in this format and will require additional art charges. File must be saved as 100% the print size and at 300 dpi. Save as a .pdf file. Adobe Photoshop (CS) - Save as 100% the print size, CMYK color, 300 dpi minimum. Line Art - minimum of 600 dpi (1200 preferred). Save as .tif or .eps file. Microsoft Word - Remember
that programs like Word do not include fonts or typestyles when you
save the file. When the file is opened in another version, it may replace
the typestyle with what the program thinks is similar. This, at times,
causes line ending, spacing, and paragraphs to change. Also be aware
when placing color photos to print in black and white that the quality
of the photo may suffer when converting it to black & white. For
example, if your photo has a red background and the subject also Microsoft Publisher (2000 & newer) - For all publisher jobs (press or copier) – Do not use any of the built-in templates, always start your job from a blank new page. When done, use the "Take to a Commercial Printer" option under FILE menu. When prompted, select all options to include (fonts, images etc.) Save the files into a folder (should be three files produced). For 2 color jobs - Publisher does not color separate and may require additional art. For full color jobs - all photos and elements should be placed as CMYK (not RGB!). Before saving the file, go under the TOOLS menu - then COMMERCIAL PRINTING SERVICES - then change color mode to CMYK. Save as a .pub file. REMINDERS ON ALL FILES Bleeds - If the image is to bleed off the page, we require 1/8" bleed minimum. Margins - We recommend different
size margins for each job or specific press. Hard Copy Required - The
best way to ensure that your job is the best quality possible is to
provide a hard copy of the file. If the hard copy/ proof is waived,
we cannot be responsible for errors due to file transmission.
